Sthira Defined

The Sanskrit word we’re looking at this time is sthira. This is one of 2 qualities the Yogasutra posits as necessary for asana practice. Like yin and yang, they are interdependent. Sthira can be translated as strong, steady, or stable. It has undertones of courage.

Its sister quality is sukha, meaning ease or literally, good space. Where in your life could you use strength that is counterbalanced by ease? Can you imagine how a “good space” lends to steadiness in the face of challenges?
